Cosmetic methods of skin lightening using coumarin derivatives of formula I
as skin lightening agents alone or in combination with other skin benefit
agents and together with a cosmetic vehicle:

Where each or both R.sub.1 and/or R.sub.2 represents hydrogen; linear or
branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl,
hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkenyl, acyl, cycloacyl, or alkoxy groups;
Each or both R.sub.3 and/or R.sub.4, which may be connected by a single or
double carbon-carbon bond (shown as a dotted line), represents hydrogen;
linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl,
or cycloalkenyl group; and
Each or both R.sub.5 and/or R.sub.6 represents a hydrogen atom, OH, C.sub.1
-C.sub.4 acyl group, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, O--CO--R.sub.7,
O--COO--R.sub.8 group, mesyl group or tosyl group, where each or both
R.sub.7 and/or R.sub.8 represents hydrogen; linear or branched C.sub.1
-C.sub.18 alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkenyl, acyl, cycloacyl,
or alkoxy groups.
Méthodes cosmétiques d'allégement de peau en utilisant des dérivés de coumarine de la formule I comme agents d'allégement de peau seuls ou en combination avec d'autres agents d'avantage de peau et ainsi qu'un véhicule cosmétique : ## du ## STR1 Là où chacun ou R.sub.1 et/ou R.sub.2 représente l'hydrogène ; C.sub.1 linéaire ou embranché - alkyl C.sub.18, alkényle, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, hydroxyalkylique, hydroxyalkenyl, acyle, cycloacyl, ou groupes alkoxy ; Chacun ou R.sub.3 et/ou R.sub.4, qui peut être relié par une obligation simple ou double de carbone-carbone (montrée comme ligne pointillée), représente l'hydrogène ; C.sub.1 linéaire ou embranché - alkyl C.sub.18, alkényle, alcoxy, cycloalkyl, ou groupe de cycloalkenyl ; et chacun ou R.sub.5 et/ou R.sub.6 représente un atome d'hydrogène, OH, C.sub.1 - groupe de l'acyle C.sub.4, C.sub.1 - C.sub.4 groupe alcoyle, O -- CO -- R.sub.7, O -- COO -- groupe R.sub.8, groupe de mesyl ou groupe de tosyl, où chacun ou R.sub.7 et/ou R.sub.8 représente l'hydrogène ; C.sub.1 linéaire ou embranché - alkyl C.sub.18, alkényle, hydroxyalkylique, hydroxyalkenyl, acyle, cycloacyl, ou groupes alkoxy.
