Novel hydroxamic acid compounds are disclosed. These hydroxamates inhibit
peptide deformylase (PDF), an enzyme present in prokaryotes and are
therefore useful as antimicrobials and antibiotics. Methods of synthesis
and of use of the compounds are also disclosed.
