A coal gasification feed injector is disclosed having an oxidation-resistant
insert
which prevents oxidative corrosion of the shield, and the subsequent damage to
the underlying face of the feed injector. The life of the feed injector, and thus
the length of a single gasification campaign, is thereby extended.
