Described is a transgenic non-human RS1-/- animal characterized in that it
shows increased body weight, increased total fat and/or increased mean
fat cell volume compared to a wild type animal. Also described are
various uses of said animal, e.g. as an animal model for adipositas or
hypercholesterolaemia, for identifying substances suitable for the
therapy and/or prevention of adipositas or hypercholesterolaemia or for
assaying the efficacy of dieting or pharmacological therapy of adipositas
or hypercholesterolaemia. Finally, the use of compounds is described
which are capable of modulating the activity/expression of RS1 for the
treatment or prevention of diseases like adipositas or
hypercholesterolaemia.
