A method provides seamless porting of a user telephone number from a first telephone
service provider network to a second telephone service provider network. A network
interface device is provided that is interconnected to the first telephone service
provider network, a second telephone service provider network, and at least one
user communications device. The network interface device may be remotely controlled
using the second telephone service provider network to transfer the user telephone
number from the first network to the second network.
