The present invention is directed to methods for inhibiting tumor cell growth,
causing tumor regression or eliminating tumor cells in a mammal afflicted with
a tumor by administering to a TRAIL-sensitive cell a vector having a DNA expression
cassette containing a promoter and a DNA sequence encoding TRAIL, wherein the expression
of TRAIL results in tumor inhibition, regression or elimination.
