This invention is a device for the production of beverages made by the addition
of water as described, in particular brewed hot beverages, such as soups etc.,
and in particular tea or coffee, whereby the invention comprises a liquid tank
and a movable screen basket which holds the material used for the infusion, whereby
the gap between the screen basket and the inside wall of the tank in the direction
of movement of the screen basket is such that when the screen basket is moved,
essentially the entire volume liquid in the tank flows into the screen basket with
the aim of achieving a targeted flow of liquid through and around the material
which is being infused. A process is provided for the production of beverages made
by the addition of water,in particular brewed hot beverages, or soups etc., whereby
the quantity of liquid in the tank is measured before the production process begins,
the liquid in the tank is heated or cooled to a set temperature and the appropriate
brewing or infusion time is calculated dependent on the measured quantity and/or
temperature of the liquid and/or the nature of the beverage being produced.
