Provided are a nonaqueous electrolyte for improving overcharge safety and
a lithium battery using the same. The nonaqueous electrolyte according to the present
invention forms a polymer due to its oxidative decomposition even if there is an
increase in voltage due to overcharge of a battery by some uncontrollable conditions,
so that overcharge current is continuously consumed, thereby protecting the battery.
Therefore, overcharge safety of the battery can be enhanced, and occurrence of
swelling is reduced. Also, deterioration in formation, standard capacity and cycle
life characteristics can be prevented.
