A magnetic head including a flux closure layer that functions with a magnetic
shield
layer to reduce the flow of magnetic flux from the edge of the magnetic shield
to an MR sensor element of the magnetic head. The flux closure layer is disposed
adjacent to the magnetic shield to prevent magnetic flux leakage from the edges
of the magnetic shield from flowing to the MR sensor element and create unwanted
signal noise.
