Method of transferring a moving web a new core wherein the method includes introducing at least one initial cutting piece between the moving web and a winding roll in such a way that a region of the at least one initial cutting piece remains uncovered by the moving web, connecting the at least one initial cutting piece to the new core, the connecting utilizing at least a temporary connection and occurring in the region of the at least one initial cutting piece which remains uncovered by the moving web, and cutting the moving web to form a new web start at least one of before the nip and before the moving web is wound onto the new core, wherein the connecting connects a new web start to the new core and thereafter allows the moving web to be wound onto the new core.
