A pre-set time lapse occurs between plays to afford a gamer playing the continuous play slot machine the option to return to manual play by re-actuating the continuous play switch. The continuous play slot machine also reverts to manual play when insufficient credit to play remains. In an alternate embodiment, continuous play slot machine reverts to manual play when its reels achieve a winning combination.
