Substituted .beta.-lactones (oxetanones) corresponding to the formula I, 1 wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and n have the meanings given in the specification, and pharmaceutical compositions which contain these compounds and have a pancreatic lipase-inhibiting action, as well as a process for the preparation of the compounds of Formula I and intermediate products of this process.
