The first lens group includes, in order from the object side, a first lens subgroup that is fixed during focusing and a second lens subgroup that moves during focusing. The second lens group includes, in order from the object side, first and second lens elements having negative refractive power, and first and second doublet components with each formed of a lens element having positive refractive power and a lens element having negative refractive power. To suppress lateral color, specified conditions are satisfied for the Abbe numbers and the refractive indices of the positive refractive power lens elements that are included in the doublet components of the second lens group.
