A pipeline is constructed in steep terrain by digging a ditch on the incline,
assembling
pipe joints together adjacent a top of the incline and then lowering the assembled
pipe joints down the incline through the ditch. A wheeled assembly at the lower
end of the pipeline carries much of the load and rolls down the ditch as allowed
by winch equipment at the top of the incline. Bearing supports are installed periodically
in the ditch to support the pipeline, the supports being of a softer material than
coatings on the pipe.
