A digital signature containing a timestamp from when a digital document is
generated is attached to the digital document. Timestamp information is
obtained from a time source that is traceable to a time standard, such as
a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server, a National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) time server or a radio broadcast station. The
timestamp information is encrypted using a private key of a
public/private key pair and attached to the digital document as the
digital signature.
