The invention also provides a composition for buccal administration comprising varenicline or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt and at least one excipient to form a solid dosage form, wherein the solid dosage form disintegrates in an oral cavity at body temperature and may adhere to body tissue of the oral cavity; a composition for pulmonary administration comprising varenicline or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt and at least one excipient; and, a method for reducing nicotine addiction, aiding in the cessation of, or lessening of tobacco use in a subject.
