The recording medium includes a data recording area having a portion that is a reserve area in which management data associated with a file is recorded. The management data is recorded in the reserve area in a direction opposite to a direction in which data is recorded in a remaining portion of the data recording area. The management data includes a PBR, a file allocation table, a root directory entry, and a sub-directory entry each being in the MS-DOS format.
