The invention provides novel pigment dispersants of the formula (I) ##STR1##

in which is a radical of the formula (Ia) ##STR2##

s is a number from 0.1 to 4.0 and

n is a number from 0 to 2.0;

and provides pigment preparations comprising an organic base pigment and a pigment dispersant of the formula (I).
