A compound of Formula (1) and salts thereof:

In the formula, m is 1, 2 or 3; X is H or SO.sub.3 H; R.sup.1 and R.sup.2
are each independently selected from optionally substituted alkyl and
optionally substituted alkoxy; and R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are each
independently H, optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted
aryl. When (i) at least one of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 carries an --OH group;
and (ii) when X is H at least one of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is optionally
substituted alkyl. The compounds are useful as dyes for ink jet printing
inks.
