The present invention refers to a continuous process for gelatines
production and chromium recovery from tanned hides and skins shaving,
containing trivalent chromium. The claimed process consists in an acid
hydrolysis followed by separations of the various products, wherefrom
three major components are obtained: gelatine from collagen, tanning
chromium salt, used for hides and skins tanning, and the hydrolysing
agent. The gelatines obtained can be used as adhesives in various
industrial sectors, i.e. from the industry of abrasives to the paper and
cardboard industry, to bookbinding, to the industry of dyes and plasters,
to the production of matches. The chromium salts obtained can be
recovered and reused in the tanning industry; the hydrolysing agent may
be recycled.
