A method for capturing specified materials which includes contacting a
microporous material with a hydrostatic fluid having at least one
specified material carried therein, under pressure which structurally
distorts the lattice sufficiently to permit entry of the at least one
specified material. The microporous material is capable of undergoing a
temporary structural distortion which alters resting lattice dimensions
under increased ambient pressure and at least partially returning to rest
lattice dimensions when returned to ambient pressure. The pressure of the
fluid is then reduced to permit return to at least partial resting
lattice dimension while the at least one specified material is therein.
By this method, at least one specified material is captured in the
microporous material to form a modified microporous material.
