A compound for use in organic EL devices comprising X.sub.n--Y wherein X is a compound of the formula and Y is a linking group ##STR00001## and R.sub.1 to R.sub.8 and a to d are hydrogen, an alkyl group, an aryl group which may be substituted, an allyl group which may be substituted, a heterocyclic group which may be substituted, an amino group, or an arylamino group which may be substituted.
