The present invention relates to the use of compounds for the manufacture
of a medicament for the prophylaxis and/or treatment of induced cell
toxicity, such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, in particular where the
cell toxicity is induced by a medical treatment. In a preferred
embodiment the compounds have at least two nitrogen atoms, more
preferably at least two amino groups. The compounds according to the
invention are capable of blocking binding of cell toxic compounds to the
megalin receptor, and thereby inhibiting uptake of the cell toxic
compounds into cells. The invention further relates to novel compounds
for use in said treatment, as well as a method for reducing the cell
toxicity of cell toxic compounds.
