The invention relates to a method of detecting Transmissable Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE) in animals, particularly in animal carcasses, using an anti-PrP.sup.SC antibody in an immunological assay. Also disclosed is a diagnostic kit for detecting TSE comprising the same antibody.
