A method of enabling a user to search stored information via an interactive search request form is provided. The form includes a search field for inputting a handwritten search request and coded data indicative of an identity of the form and of a plurality of locations within the search field. The method has the steps of: (a) inputting a handwritten search request in the search field using a sensing device; (b) receiving in a computer system indicating data from the sensing device, the indicating data comprising data regarding the identity of the form and data regarding the position and/or movement of the sensing device relative to the at least one search field, the sensing device generating the indicating data when writing the handwritten search request; and (c) identifying in the computer system, using at least some of the indicating data, a search request corresponding to the handwritten search request.
