The present invention comprises a system useful for organization of information adapted for use in a computer system. In an exemplary embodiment, authorities and summarized information of an authority may be created for later access. Typically, raw data are captured into an authority table from which they can be selectively retrieved by a user. Users may also summarize at least a portion of the raw data; examine one or more elements in a user taxonomy table for an appropriate taxonomy element to associate with the summarization and/or authority and create a new element in the user taxonomy table for an appropriate taxonomy element to associate with the summarization or authority if an appropriate element is not already present in the taxonomy table. Users may further associate the summarization and/or authority with the appropriate element of the taxonomy table.
