An image forming apparatus includes a movable member; a roller contacted to the movable member, the roller having an elastic layer contacted to the movable member, the elastic layer having an ion electroconductivity and having a hardness of not less than 20.degree. and not more than 50.degree., wherein the hardness and a density of the elastic layer satisfy (hardness/density).gtoreq.65, wherein the hardness is an Asker-C hardness of a material of the elastic layer cut out into a thickness of 4.0 mm under a weight of 500 g applied to the material.
