A wavefront rely devices samples an incoming optical wavefront at
different locations, optically relays the samples while maintaining the
relative position of the samples and the relative phase between the
samples. The wavefront is reconstructed due to interference of the
samples. Devices can be designed for many different wavelengths,
including for example the ultraviolet, visible, infrared and even longer
wavelengths such as millimeter waves. In one application, the device
function as a telescope but with negligible length.
