The method aspect comprises receiving an audio signal and to remove a first portion of a frame of the audio signal, and generating an overlap-added segment from (1) a first segment of the frame, the first segment being located before the first portion; and (2) a second segment of the frame, the second segment comprising an endmost portion of a terminal section of the frame. The method preferably operates in a discontinuous transmission packet telephony network having a channel access delay.
