The device for ultraviolet radiation treatment of body tissues includes a
UV light source, a halogen light source and a viewing mechanism all
connected to a trifurcation joint by fiber optic cables. All three fiber
optics cables are bundled together and exit the trifurcation joint and
form a flexible shaft having a distal tip. The distal tip is polished to
radiate collimated light. The device allows a user to illuminate the
target area in or on the human body via the halogen light, to view the
target area via the viewing mechanism, and to treat the body tissue via
the UV light source. For destroying pathogens the UV light is calibrated
to 253.7 nanometers, a germicidal UV wavelength, by selection of a
specific light bulb. The UV light source may be a mercury light bulb and
it is maintained at a constant wavelength using a fan to regulate the
temperature within the UV light housing.
