An electro-optical device includes a plurality of pixels arranged on a
substrate. Each of the pixels includes a plurality of EL light-emitting
elements that are disposed on the substrate and are connected in series.
Each of the EL light-emitting elements includes a first electrode, a
luminescent layer, and a second electrode that are disposed in a
thickness direction of the substrate, and each of the EL light-emitting
elements has a characteristic of emitting light in response both to a
forward applied voltage and to a reverse applied voltage. The first
electrodes or the second electrodes of neighboring EL light-emitting
elements of the plurality of EL light-emitting elements are coupled to
each other, so that the plurality of EL light-emitting elements are
connected in series.
