Elastomers which have excellent stability to prevent oxidative, thermal,
dynamic, light-induced and/or ozone-induced degradation comprise, as
stabilizers, at least one compound of the formula I
[R--S(.dbd.O).sub.m--CH.sub.2--CH(OH)--CH.sub.2].sub.n--N(R.sup.1).sub.2--
n--R.sup.2, (I) in which R is C.sub.4 C.sub.20alkyl,
hydroxyl-substituted C.sub.4 C.sub.20alkyl; phenyl, benzyl,
.alpha.-methylbenzyl, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylbenzyl, cyclohexyl or
--(CH.sub.2).sub.qCOOR.sup.3, and, if m is 0, R may additionally be
##STR00001## and, if n is 1 and R.sup.4 is hydrogen, R may additionally
be R.sup.2--R.sup.1N--CH.sub.2--CH(OH)--CH.sub.2--S(.dbd.O).sub.m--(CH.-
sub.2).sub.x-- or
R.sup.2--R.sup.1N--CH.sub.2--CH(OH)--CH.sub.2--S(.dbd.O).sub.m--CH.sub.2--
-CH.sub.2--(O--CH.sub.2--CH.sub.2).sub.y--, R.sup.1 is hydrogen,
cyclohexyl or C.sub.3 C.sub.12alkyl, R.sup.2 is ##STR00002## R.sup.3
is C.sub.1-C.sub.18alkyl, R.sup.4 is hydrogen or
--CH.sub.2--CH(OH)--CH.sub.2--S(.dbd.O).sub.m--R, X is C.sub.1
C.sub.8alkyl, Y is C.sub.1 C.sub.8alkyl, m is 0 or 1, n is 1 or 2, q is 1
or 2, x is from 2 to 6, and y is 1 or 2. The compounds of the formula I
are also suitable as stabilizers for elastomers to prevent contact
discoloration of substrates coming into contact with elastomers.
