The present invention relates to a pyrimidine compound of formula (1): ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.3 C.sub.7 alkynyl; R.sup.2 is hydrogen, halogen, or C.sub.1 C.sub.3 alkyl; and R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 C.sub.8 alkyl that may be substituted with halogen or C.sub.1 C.sub.3 alkoxy, or C.sub.3 C.sub.6 cycloalkyl (that may be substituted with halogen or C.sub.1 C.sub.3 alkyl) C.sub.1 C.sub.3 alkyl; a pesticidal composition comprising the pyrimidine compound as an active ingredient; and a method for controlling pests comprising applying the pyrimidine compound to pests or habitats of pests.
