A method in a computer system for enabling a process to manage the
execution of a periodic, single-execution (PSE) task is disclosed. The
process represents one of a plurality of processes executing on the
computer system, and the PSE task represents a task to be performed once
by one of the plurality of processes for each rotation of a periodic
schedule. Each of the plurality of processes is capable of performing the
PSE task and scheduled to perform the PSE task during the each rotation
of the periodic schedule. The method ensures that the PSE task is
performed only once by one of a plurality of processes during each
rotation of the periodic schedule.
