The present invention provides a compound of formula (I): ##STR00001## wherein R.sub.1 R.sub.5, R.sub.25, R.sub.26, Y and X.sub.2 are as defined herein. The compounds activate human peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (hPPARs) and are useful for the treatment of associated disorders such as cardiovascular disease and hypercholesteremia.
