The present invention relates to an apparatus and method to obtain bone
fixation. More particularly, one embodiment of the present invention
relates to a mechanism for achieving bone "through-growth" in a variety
of orthopaedic applications. In one example (which example is intended to
be illustrative and not restrictive), a prosthesis designed to achieve
bone "through-growth" via one or more "windows" in a peg or keel
structure may be provided (bone graft may be inserted into the peg or
keel structure). In one specific example (which example is intended to be
illustrative and not restrictive), a glenoid prosthesis (and associated
method) may be used to resurface the scapula. In another specific
example, the present invention may be used in the context of a partial or
total shoulder arthroplasty.
