An inventive engine valve assembly may comprise a rotatable shaft having a
fluid passageway extending therethrough, preferably in a direction
orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The shaft may be
positioned such that the fluid passageway is in communication with an
engine cylinder during selected portions of shaft rotation. The shaft may
be arranged to rotate with the crankshaft. When used as an intake valve,
the valve may be arranged to allow fluid communication with the cylinder
during an intake stroke. When used as an exhaust valve, the valve may be
arranged to allow fluid communication with the cylinder during an exhaust
stroke.
