A method for performing arthroplasty on a joint using a surgical
navigation system, the method includes the steps of locating articular
anatomical structures using the surgical navigation system; determining
biomechanical properties of the joint; and evaluating the soft tissue
envelope properties for the joint. The method also includes the steps of
displaying an interactive view of the joint, the soft tissue envelope
properties, the biomechanical properties and a chosen implant to enable a
surgeon to manipulate simultaneously the soft tissue envelope properties,
the biomechanical properties and the chosen implant on the interactive
view; preparing the joint to receive the chosen implants; and installing
the implants in the prepared joint.
