In some embodiments, channel sounding is performed using a single radio frequency transmitter chain in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. In some embodiments, portions of a channel sounding preamble are serially transmitted on several transmit mobile-station antennas to enable MIMO beamforming by an access point.
