A process for the conversion of a hydrocarbon feedstock to produce xylene compounds. The feedstock is selectively hydrocracked and introduced into a transalkylation zone with a hydrocarbonaceous stream rich in benzene, toluene and C.sub.9.sup.+ hydrocarbons.
