Multiple photoelectric conversion elements are arranged and photoelectric conversion elements for auto focus (AF) are arranged between them. Concave and convex forms are formed, and the photoelectric conversion elements for rear side and front side AF are disposed in the concave and convex portions. The moving direction of a focusing lens is determined based on the difference between outputs of the photoelectric conversion elements for rear side and front side AF and the focusing lens is moved to the position where the contrast value obtained from the photoelectric conversion elements becomes the maximum.
