A pre-tilt angle of liquid crystal molecules adjacent to one of the substrates is in a range of 0.degree. to 15.degree., and a pre-tilt angle of liquid crystal molecules adjacent to another substrate is in a range of 75.degree. to 90.degree.. This structure ensures the LCD device has a fast response time.
