The present invention provides novel compounds and methods for using them to treat diseases with aminothiophene inhibitors of IKK-.beta. phosphorylation of I.kappa.B. In so doing these aminothiophene inhibitors block pathological activation of transcription factor NF-.kappa.B in which diseases excessive activation of NF-.kappa.B is implicated.
