A method of determining, and an apparatus to determine, a track zero
position of a disc in a disc drive, the method including seeking,
sequentially, in units of predetermined numbers of tracks, outwardly from
a designed track zero position to a predetermined critical track position
of the disc; determining whether track following is performed normally
during the seeking; and determining an actual track zero position by
shifting the designed track zero position inward by a predetermined
number of tracks in response to the track following not performing
normally, and determining the actual track zero position to be the
designed track position in response to the track following performing
normally.
