The invention provides a black and white photothermographic material
comprising an image forming layer containing on at least one side of a
support at least a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive
organic silver salt, a reducing agent for silver ions, and a binder,
wherein: the non-photosensitive organic silver salt comprises at least
one compound selected from a silver salt of an azole compound or a silver
salt of a mercapto compound; and the photothermographic material further
comprises, a compound that can be one-electron-oxidized to provide a
one-electron oxidation product which releases one or more electrons, and
an adsorptive redox compound having a group adsorbable to the silver
halide and a reducing group in the molecule. The invention provides a
black and white photothermographic material having high image quality and
an excellent storability, and an image forming method.
