The invention relates to an improved system for inkjet printing which
results in images with increased permanence as measured by transfer of
color from the image when the image is subjected to mechanical and/or
chemical abrasion. The invention provides a fusible material that may be
combined with any or all of the color inks used to create the image, or
it may be used as a colorless fluid applied pre- or post-printing. The
permanence of images produced by the system are comparable to those
produced by electrophotography. The invention also relates to a printing
apparatus that contains a means for fusing the image using heat applied
after the printed substrate is ejected from the printer.
