Safety arrester cables are provided to connect a wheel of a racing car to
its chassis. The safety arrester cable is formed of a multitude of
untwisted windings that form closed loops. An open tab is formed at both
ends of each of the windings. The windings in the safety arrester cable
are manufactured to be comprised of more than 70% nickel or an austenitic
Ni--Cr alloy. A safety arrester cable comprised of such wires, and having
a diameter of about 12 mm, achieves a maximal tear force of about 58 kN
and a work absorption until reaching a maximal tear force of 8,900 N.m.
