The invention provides the use of compounds of the formula (1)

C.sub.2- to C.sub.22-alkenyl, C.sub.6- to C.sub.30-aryl or C.sub.7- to
C.sub.30-alkylaryl, --CHR.sup.6COO.sup.- or --O.sup.-, A is a C.sub.2- to
C.sub.4-alkylene group, B is a C.sub.1- to C.sub.10-alkylene group, X is
O or NR.sup.7 R.sup.6, R.sup.7 are each independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-
to C.sub.22-alkyl, C.sub.2- to C.sub.22-alkenyl, C.sub.6- to
C.sub.30-aryl or C.sub.7- to C.sub.30-alkylaryl, R.sup.4 is a C.sub.1-
to C.sub.50-alkyl, C.sub.2- to C.sub.50-alkenyl radical, C.sub.6- to
C.sub.50-aryl or C.sub.7- to C.sub.50-alkylaryl, R.sup.5 is hydrogen,
--OH or a C.sub.1- to C.sub.4-alkyl radical, n, m are each independently
a number from 0 to 30, x is a number from 1 to 6, as corrosion and gas
hydrate inhibitors, and also the compounds of formula 1.
