The invention relates to the use of perfluoroalkyl-containing metal complexes that have a critical micelle formation concentration <10.sup.-3 mol/l, a hydrodynamic micelle diameter (2 Rh)>1 nm and a proton relaxivity in plasma (R.sup.1)>10 l/mmols as contrast media in MR imaging for visualization of intravascular thrombi.
