The present invention relates to compounds of formula (I-VII) ##STR00001## or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof, in which A, L, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are defined herein. The present invention also relates to methods of treating pain using these compounds and pharmaceutical compositions including these compounds.
